Lorac Pro vs Laura Mercier Artist's Palette Review

When owning several palettes, you just tend to reach for one. I actually only have three palettes. The two shown above and the Naked 1 palette. I love the ones I have and am so pleased. I had the Vice 2 palette for a little while but found that I never really reached for it, and I hadn't even touched several of the colours! So I got to swap it for a couple Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks that will be coming in within the next couple weeks :)

In any case, these two palettes are the ones I reach for, leaving my poor Naked palette by its lonesome (except for when I reach for it for Half Baked. I might end up buying just the single eyeshadow after I use up this one since it's the main shade I go for on that palette!)

Laura Mercier Artist's Palette for the eyes 2013.
I love this thing. I had it on my list when Sephora's VIB sale was going on. I just didn't want to hit confirm payment until I got home. I had gone from school to work, and was staring at it lovingly whenever I had a free moment of time.

I got home, and it was gone. Sold out. I almost cried. I definitely whined for the longest time to my poor boyfriend (he had to deal with me... poor poor boyfriend). And then I thought, well Sephora Online might be sold out, but I have two Sephora stand alone shops nearby!! So I called them, and they had one available and they saved it for me and it was mine.  I was a happy girl.

Although I've seen many people say that the LM palette is cool-toned, I think it easily goes well with my warm-toned olive skintone. I have used every single colour, which is something I cannot say for either of my other palettes. I tend to do a look with the top row, and a separate look for the bottom row. Her eyeshadows are extremely creamy and thus also very blendable. You can blend them into anything! As soon as I touched my brush to the pans, I thought of the creaminess of the Lorac Pro.

Ta da! Lorac Pro!

The Lorac Pro has extremely creamy and blendable colours as well. In comparison to my Naked palette, it was smooth and buttery, whereas Nake was beautiful but somewhat gritty with glitter. I also had problems with fallout from the Naked palette that I did not have with either the Lorac Pro or the LM palette.

The Lorac Pro also happens to have the perfect colours to fit any skin tone. I wear it frequently (one of my favourite combos is Cream, Taupe, Sable, Espresso, Gold or Garnet, and a touch of black), and it just makes the most beautiful neutral smoky gradient. For Halloween, one of my friends asked me to do her eyeshadow makeup and I decided that this palette had more versatility. Sure enough, her cool-toned light skin just glowed with this one! It brought out the copper tones of her hazel eyes, and just matched her red hair so well, and I might have fan-girled all over the place. She looked fierce.

Anyways, here are swatches of the two palettes. LM Palette is on top, and the Lorac is on bottom. They were swatched using a brush and 2-3 swipes on top of my NARS Smudge-proof Eyeshadow Base.
Lorac has a lot more colours than the LM palette. They also show up a bit better.

Some of the LM palette's lighter colours don't show up on my arm very well, but they are wonderful as a highlighter or a starting base.

The top is (left to right): part of Bamboo, Fresno, Primrose, Vanilla Nuts, Violet Ink, Kir Royal, Plum Smoke, African Violet, Guava (doesn't show well), and Sparkling Dew (doesn't show well).
The bottom is (left to right): Champagne, Nude, Black, Espresso, Sable, Mauve, Lt. Pink, Taupe, Cream, and White.
Again, top is (left to right): Espresso Bean, Truffle, Bamboo, Fresno, Primrose and Vanilla Nuts. Bottom is (left to right): Slate, Deep Purple, Garnet, Pewter, Lt. Bronze, gold, Champagne, Nude and part of  Black.

Hope this is helpful to some!

**Note: Although both palettes have Espresso, LM's is a darker black colour, whereas Lorac's is a warm darker brown.

Thank you!
